The Village Hall and playing field are owned by the village and have charitable status.
The Village Hall is situated in the corner of the playing field, marked with a blue dot above. There is pedestrian access to the playing field by the village hall but also in the opposite corner near the bus stop. Vehicular access is usually from Broadclose Way. The playing field and the children’s play area are open to all but no dogs are allowed for health reasons. This also applies to Stocks Green situated opposite the telephone box and which is separately maintained by the Parish Council. There will be a brief interruption to access to the children play area in July/August 2015 for safety reasons as new play equipment is installed.
The Village Hall and Playing Field committee supervises the use of the facilities including accounts and maintenance. Costs are covered by hire charges, fundraising and grants.
The Hall offers a main room approx 17m by 6m (55′ by 20′) with an adjacent food preparation area. There are also separate ladies, gents and disabled toilets. The Hall has a premises licence to hold events running from 8am to 11pm. For extended hours and permission to sell alcohol a separate Temporary Event Notice is required from South Somerset District Council. Details of how to apply for a TENS can be found on the SSDC website.
The Playing field includes changing facilities with separate ‘home’ and ‘away’ rooms and the field itself can be set up for Cricket, Football or Croquet.
