Installation of a Defibrillator
In June 2020, in collaboration with the village hall, we installed a defibrillator on the external wall of the village hall. It is registered with the local ambulance service so when anyone calls the emergency services they will give you the access code and talk you through the process, the machine also gives clear instructions. A simple step by step guide can be found on this website – https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8A0kljQU48U
Telephone Box Repainting
The Parish Council bought the Telephone Box on Stocks Green for £1 from BT in 2019. It was in a poor state of repair so in July 2020 they had it repainted and restored to it’s former glory. The plans are to turn it into a multi media exchange.
Instigation of Community Speedwatch
Community Speedwatch is a national initiative where members of local communities join with the support of the Police to monitor speeds of vehicles using speed detection devices. Volunteers receive appropriate training, and are supported by neighbourhood policing team staff.
Our group of volunteers meet every 10 days at one of the two certified sites – Northfield House, Barton Road (by Sycamore Farm Shop) and Barton St David Bus Stop to carry out speed checks.
If you would like to understand more about how the scheme works or how to get involved, then please kindly send an email to: Charlie Painter at: firstname.lastname@example.org
Rebuilding of Stocks Green Garden Wall
A major investment by Parish Council to make good this traditional stone wall. It involved taking down the existing wall, relevelling the site, sorting and cleaning all the reusable stones, shoring up the foundations and rebuilding the wall.
War Memorial Restoration
The war memorial, which stands at the corner of Broadclose Way, commemorates 42 members of the parish who served in WWI and 34 who served in WWII. The memorial consists of an obelisk set on a plinth which has
recessed panels and incised lettering. It is set within a garden of remembrance. In May 2015 the Parish Council commissioned a much needed refurbishment of the Memorial and surrounding area. It included refurbishment and re-setting of railings, landscaping of area around memorial, structural works to memorial and repairs and repointing to boundary wall.
It is also listed on the War Memorials Online website here.
